Module 6.1
Demonstrate an ability to apply basic orienteering and surveying techniques
Participants will be introduced to a variety of orienteering and surveying techniques. The course consists of online lectures and a short answers quiz. The participant must achieve a grade of at least 70% on the quiz to pass the module.
Module Objectives
- Describe and explain the basics of a compass and a compass use, including about declination and how to find it, how to find a bearing from a map, the difference between a bearing and an azimuth.
- Describe and explain GPS.
- Describe elements of a map.
- Explain the forest resource inventory in Ontario and the associated image products used in GIS.
- Explain map projections.
- Explain measuring distance using pacing, chains, string box, GPS.
