Module 4.3
Organizational Structure and Function
This module will:
- describe the role of government in society as a process for establishing legislation and policy.
- discuss the social, environmental and economic effects of policies and strategies that affect forestry as developed by various organizations;
- describe Indigenous peoples’ interactions with relevant organizations;
- describe the effects of labour relations on forestry’
- explain the effects of certification programs on forestry; and
Module Objectives
The candidate will have knowledge of:
- The role of governments in regulating forestry;
- The role of voluntary compliance through forest certification systems;
- Various organizations involved in the forest sector and how their mandates and policies affect social, environmental and economic outcomes;
- The unique role and rights of Indigenous peoples in the forest sector and how Indigenous peoples interact with relevant forest organizations; and
- How labour relations affect the forest sector.
The candidate will demonstrate that:
- They can map out or describe a forest administration system for a jurisdiction; and
- They can analyze social, environmental and economic effects of both governmental and non-governmental forest policies.
Module Schedule
Module 3 is broken into five lessons: The role of government in setting legislation and policy; Government regulation vs. voluntary compliance through certification; Social, environmental and economic impacts of forest organizations’ policies; Interactions of Aboriginal peoples with forest organizations; and Effects of labour relations on forestry.
